  • Eligibility: California resident, covered under SDI, who must take time off to care for a seriously ill child, spouse, parent, or registered domestic partner, or to bond with a new child or with a child in connection to an adoption or foster care placement. Individual must have earned at least $300 from which SDI deductions were withheld during a previous period and a doctor must complete the medical certification for the reason for the leave.

The certificate must include a diagnosis, beginning date of the disability, probable duration and the estimate time care is needed. An estimate of the amount of time necessary to provide care is also required.
